THE TEAM NEWS

ADELAIDE STRIKERS

Coach: Jason Gillespie

Captain: Colin Ingram

  • The Strikers got their title defence off to a strong start in the opening match of BBL08 as they eased past the Brisbane Heat by five wickets in a pretty strong all-round display as they were better with both bat and ball.

  • They will have to make on enforced change as Peter Siddle is with the Australian Test squad ahead of their match with India so he misses out here and Harry Nielsen comes into the 13-man squad but is unlikely to start here with all-rounder Cameron Valente most likely to come into the side.

  • Alex Carey was in excellent form with the bat opening the innings against Brisbane and he will be key once again but they will be hoping for improved displays from skipper Colin Ingram and fast bowler Billy Stanlake who were both below par in the opening match.

MELBOURNE RENEGADES

Coach: Andrew McDonald

Captain: Tom Cooper

  • The Renegades picked up an excellent win over the Perth Scorchers in their opening match as they restricted the Scorchers to just 103 after a fine bowling display and then overcame a tough start to their innings to win by four wickets with 4.4 overs to spare.

  • They have added Joe Mennie to the squad that played that opening game but it seems unlikely he will come into the team which will surely be unchanged as they continue to be without Test duo Finch and Harris.

  • They switched their batting order in that first match and it backfired somewhat so they should revert to their standard line-up with Cooper coming in at four though the bowling line-up will be unaltered after their excellent performance.

THE PREDICTION
Both of these teams kicked off BBL08 with a win and confidence will be high in the two camps. The two wins both came with plenty to spare but they will be tested much harder here. The Strikers will miss Peter Siddle but their bowling unit still has plenty of quality to trouble any batting line-up. The Renegades started their campaign with the bowlers shining too and this match will likely hinge on which batting order can come to grips with the opposition bowlers best. They are two well matched teams and there is little to pick between them with perhaps a marginal edge going to Rashid Khan’s team with him starting so well.
