Last five meetings: Hobart Hurricanes W1, Melbourne Renegades W4
All-time meetings: Hobart Hurricanes W2, Melbourne Renegades W4
Coach: Gary Kirsten
Captain: George Bailey
This match represents the first game for Gary Kirsten as coach of the Hobart Hurricanes and his arrival as one of the most reputable coaches around has been met with great hope and expectation.
The Hurricanes' 13-man squad for this game features six new faces as fast bowler Tymal Mills, West Indian star Jofra Archer, Alex Doolan, Matthew Wade, Nathan Reardon and Aaron Summers are all named.
They will not be able to count on Tim Paine who is with the Australian national team but they have hopes for 22-year-old Jofra Archer who is making a name for himself as a top class all-rounder.
Coach: David Saker
Captain: Aaron Finch
The Renegades have made significant changes to their squad for BBL07 as they aim to improve their performance in the competition which has largely been overshadowed by their Melbourne rivals.
The Renegades have six new faces in their 13-man squad like their opponents here with Tim Ludeman, Mohammad Nabi, Kane Richardson, Xavier Crone and Jack Wildermuth as well as the returning veteran Brad Hodge all expected to play.
They will not be able to count on star signing Kieran Pollard as he is not available until he has finished his international duty with the West Indies so Afghanistan off-spinner Mohammed Nabi is his replacement until he arrives in Melbourne.
Both of these teams are likely to rely heavily on their respective captains and star players with George Bailey for Hobart and Aaron Finch for the Renegades carrying a huge amount of responsibility. The Renegades have historically had the edge over the Hurricanes but that seems irrelevant given the fact both teams have so many new faces. The Melbourne side have the greater experience however and it will likely be their wily veterans like the two Brads (Hogg & Hodge) that will edge the game for them.
