All-time meetings: Adelaide Strikers W5, Hobart Hurricanes W3, No result 1

ADELAIDE STRIKERS

Coach: Jason Gillespie

Captain: Travis Head

  • The Strikers come into the BBL07 final having edged past the Renegades in the semi-final by a single run and now they face the Hurricanes with some mixed team news to deal with but they have home advantage.
  • Captain Travis Head and Alex Carey have both been released by Cricket Australia to play the final which is a huge boost to the team and strengthens their powerful batting line-up even further so young wicketkeeper Harry Nielsen drops out of the 13-man squad.
  • They have to do without star leg-spinner Rashid Khan who is on international duty with Afghanistan and that is a huge blow following his superb BBL07 performances so paceman Nick Winter is called up but they will badly miss Khan in the middle overs.

HOBART HURRICANES

Coach: Gary Kirsten

Captain: George Bailey

  • The Hurricanes pulled off the performance of BBL07 by beating the Scorchers in Perth by an impressive 71 runs so their confidence is flying coming into this final, and playing Adelaide will not phase them after the result in Perth.
  • They are boosted by the return of BBL07 star D’Arcy Short who has been allowed to play by Cricket Australia so the star batsmen and solid spin option comes back in to open the innings with Nathan Reardon dropping out of the 13-man squad for him.
  • Tymal Mills is left out once again with the English paceman struggling for confidence but the Hurricanes’ bowling attack raised their game significantly in the semi-final and they will have to do so against versus this strong Strikers’ batting line-up.

PREDICTION

Only the Scorchers were marginally better than the Strikers in the group stage yet the Hurricanes dispatched them with ease in the semi-finals, which makes this game even more compelling. The Strikers are boosted by Alex Carey’s return but the loss of Rashid Khan is major. That said, their bowling attack is still one of the best in the competition and as they showed in their semi, they can produce the goods at key moment. That is the main differentiating factor coming into the final. The batting line-ups are both powerful and can score heavily, but the Strikers’ bowling attack gives them the edge and that should see the Strikers win BBL07.
